Buttons on your Civil War identical are one of those small stuff that can make a big difference. Buttons are not expensive and novel ones can still be found at sutlers, antique stores, and louse markets.
In ECHOES OF GLORY: ARMS AND tackle OF THE CONFEDERACY, the fastens on the Paine jacket look like small US Eagle fastens while one of them looks like a civilian fasten, and the other one looks like clear brass, but it is hard to tell from the photo.
They are not the novel fastens because the novel fastens would have been gorged volume fastens. Virginia pomp seal fastens would have possibly been the appropriate fastens on this jacket.
Even in photos and museums where you see novel jackets you dont know when the fastens were added. Many of these jackets were expected by the museum lacking fastens and the fastens were added.
Even universal Lee gave some of his fastens from his jacket to superstar who wrote a letter to him and required a keepsake. You can never be 100% convinced that the fastens on these jackets are assess because fastens can be so simply distant, tumble off or entranced. Think about fastens on your own clothes and how greatly they are assorted, entranced, etc. and you are not fighting a war and living in these clothes like the Civil War soldiers did.
The fastens on the Jenkins jacket in ECHOES OF GLORY: ARMS AND tackle OF THE CONFEDERACY are evidently added. If I were departing to do a Jenkins jacket, I would use Virginia pomp Seal fastens. Good reproduction fastens can be found at most of the sutlers.
Buttons on your Civil War uniform are some of the small details that add to the authenticity of your uniform. They are tranquil to put on and do not detriment greatly money. I think that it is a rare opportunity to be able to find an novel piece for your uniform. Buttons are one of those pieces its the small details that make all the difference.
